Principal photography of GRAY IN WHITE AND BLACK was completed on August 24, 2008. The film is currently in post-production and is expected to be completed for release in early 2009 (see Production Notes).
GRAY IN WHITE AND BLACK was written and directed by I. Michael Toth (Cast In Gray, The Freemasons). The film is based in part on Toth’s award-winning and critically acclaimed short film, Cast In Gray (see DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT and visit www.castingraymovie.com for more on this film). Toth conceived the film from a dream he had in late 2003. As was the case with Jim Jarmusch and the making of Stranger Than Paridise (1984), which originally started out as a 30-minute short film shot in 1982 and later expanded into a three-part feature. As funding became available, the third part of the film, More Like Black, was shot in August 2007. The second story, Play of White, was completed in August 2008.
Throughout its festival run in 2005 and 2006, audiences and critics responded favorably to Cast In Gray. The intent of the filmmaker and the themes running throughout the film caused audience members to engage in a sort of deconstruction of the film to find its meaning, then reconstruct the film in a collaborative partnership with the filmmaker .
GRAY IN WHITE AND BLACK was shot on 720p high-definition and is being edited and finished for film and digital distribution.
Original music for the film was composed and performed in the film by Blue Note Recording Artist, Patricia Barber (listen to MUSIC SAMPLES, and visit, www.patriciabarber.com).
